Boston Dynamics teams with TRI to bring AI to Atlas
A Polish firm called MBA Robotics developed a 4 leg robot to go underwater. It's not a standard approach with propellers. However, the 4 legs promise to replace humans in hazardous search and rescue missions when natural and human-made disasters appear.
Hyundai and Toyota, two competitors in the automotive space, are partnering in the robotics space. Boston Dynamics, a company owned by Hyundai, is partnering with Toyota Research Institute to bring advanced AI to Atlas, the electric humanoid robot built by Boston Dynamics.
While Boston Dynamics has already developed AI for its own purposes, the challenge with humanoids is teaching them to perform complex tasks fully autonomously. This is an extremely difficult problem, and some skeptics don’t believe it is possible with current AI algorithms.
Atlas is certainly one of the most advanced humanoids right now, and it remains to be seen what this partnership will bring to the world and to Atlas.
